Syntax

Objective: Design three compositions using a given quote to analyze the way in which words combine to communicate ideas. (“Without the aesthetic, the computer is but a mindless speed machine, producing effects without substance, form without relevant content, or content without meaningful form. Without the aesthetic, design is either the humdrum repetition of familiar cliches or the wild scramble for novelty.” - Paul Rand)

Concept: To play off of the idea as the computer being a mindless speed machine the first panel represents the coding of 0 and 1s that all computers are programmed off of. The second panel refers to the mindless speed machine aspect of producing effects without substance by having the m in “mindless” be separate as well as by having the whole word be bold. The third panel is where the aesthetic of design comes in so that the panel does not represent “form without content, content without form.”
